Crowdfunding on the Right

Founded in 2010, GoFundMe is now the largest crowdfunding platform in the world. The site has raised over nine billion dollars from over 120 million donors. It has also made a sport of shutting down conservative and Christian funding campaigns. From Arlene’s Flowers, Sweet Cakes Bakery, to Candace Owen, the list of revoked campaigns is long.

But if your campaign doesn’t upset the piety of liberalism, GoFundMe or any of the major crowdfunding sites will probably be fine. However, if GoFundMe doesn’t want to help, or you don’t want to pay their fees and charges, what are the alternatives?

The alternatives

Fortunately, there are a large number of crowdfunding sites. Many have a similar leftwing bias, but some specialize in Christian causes and others are not afraid of the Twitter mob.

GiveSendGo

GiveSendGo launched in 2015 with the intention of funding Christian missionaries and other Christian-related activities. However, it expanded to include raising funds for sick children, adoptions, educational expenses, legal costs, and more.

The site remained relatively unknown until last year when GoFundMe refused to allow crowdfunding for Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old man, accused of killing two people in Kenosha, Wisconsin. GiveSendGo allowed the campaign on their site and it has raised more than $500,000.

After the election of Biden, former Trump campaign staffer Matt Braynard launched a crowdfunding effort to investigate election irregularities on GoFundMe that was also quickly banned. Again the effort moved to GiveSendGo where it has raised over $600,000.

So, GiveSendGo may have started as a missionary fundraising tool but they have undertaken a wider range of crowdfunding. This has led to continued growth and a much broader mission.

Ergatas

In Matthew chapter nine it says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” That passage, written in ancient Greek, is both a slogan of the organization and from where Ergatas gets a name. Ergatas is Greek for worker.

Founded in 2020 by a missionary couple, Ergatas remains focused on missionary crowdfunding. They work with over 180 non-profit missionary organizations and have advice on how to secretly establish funding in hostile countries.

In the Future

I believe crowdfunding will grow for the foreseeable future so; I’d like to highlight more such resources. However, right now, information is scarce.

Action Tip: Support the companies that support your values.
