Recent Relapse

My arm is healing from multiple blood tests and infusions.

Frequent readers of this blog should have noticed that I’ve been away for a couple of months. I apologize. This was not planned. Several years ago, doctors discovered I have vasculitis. This rare autoimmune illness causes swelling in the smaller filtering blood vessels of the kidneys. It is serious, and it can be life-threatening. My case has been in remission for several years, but it recently flared up again.

When it did, I became weak, lost all appetite, and had many flu-like symptoms. Thus, I have been unable to keep up with the blog. I had also been planning a podcast with this site, but the medications make my voice sound like that of Robert Kennedy Jr. So, that is currently on hold.

However, the doctors knew what they were looking for this time, and the remission was quickly detected. I am in mid-treatment. My immune system is suppressed, but I’m feeling better. Hopefully, I will soon hear that I am again in remission and can resume a fairly normal life.
