Worldview Wars
While serving her first term on the Washington Elementary School board in Arizona, Tamillia Valenzuela made national news. She describes herself as a “neurodivergent Queer Black Latina,” but that isn’t what brought her to the attention of the media. Recently she stated that the board should consider “where our values lie.” She went on to state how “disheartened” and “opposed” she was to discover that the district had an ongoing contract with Arizona Christian University that enabled their student teachers to be placed in the district’s schools for field experience. The contract opened up opportunities for recruitment and hiring.
Ms. Valenzuela stated that the reason for her opposition was that Arizona Christian University has a goal to, “transform the culture with truth by promoting the Biblically-informed values that are foundational to Western civilization, including the centrality of family, traditional sexual morality, and lifelong marriage between one man and one woman.” Sadly, the Washington Elementary School board canceled its contract with Arizona Christian University.
There was a time in America when Biblically-informed values were foundational and included the central importance of family, traditional sexual morality, and lifelong marriage between one man and one woman.” However, some Americans now believe that conservatives and Christians are the problem. In 2021, Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a directive asking the FBI to help address the growing protests by parents at school board meetings. Just last year, the website Vice published an article warning about “Christian Fascist Propaganda” on TikTok, and the National School Boards Association asked the Biden Administration to investigate parents acting as domestic terrorists at school board meetings. We could go on but the point has been made—there has been a cultural shift and many in this country no longer share the traditional American values.
Judeo-Christian values have formed the foundation of this country for most of its history. However, that consensus has been lost and we now have a clash of worldviews. James Sire defined worldview as “a collection of attitudes, values, stories and expectations about the world around us, which inform our every thought and action. Simply put, if someone believes they were created in the image of a loving God, and will someday return to that God, they will act accordingly. They will try to obey things like the Ten Commandments, Golden Rule, and other Biblical principles.
The secular worldview denies the existence of the Judeo-Christian God and believes humans are the only authority for their own destiny. Each person decides on their own standards and values. Existence begins when they were born and will end with their death. This worldview is often expressed as, “if it feels good, do it.” In this worldview, Ms. Valenzuela can be a “neurodivergent Queer,” simply because she wants to.
I’ll paraphrase a well-known verse from Joshua that sums up this moment in history, “choose this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” America needs to decide on a worldview.
Is America in a worldview crisis? If so, do you believe we can correct the problem? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

Democrat Representative Regina Goodwin of Oklahoma believes that DEI is a deity and inclusion is God.”
Recently she said, "That’s very disturbing, to say the least, when we have, again, a state superintendent who does not want to have anything to do with diversity, equity, and inclusion.” She went on to state that, “DEI, is a deity, diversity, equity and inclusion, is God.”
As I stated in the Worldview Wars article above, the secular worldview denies the existence of the Judeo-Christian God and believes humans are the only authority for their own destiny. Each person decides on their own standards and values. Representative Regina Goodwin has made her choice.
