A Small Victory
The stories in my local community paper, The Chronicle, are usually only of moderate interest to me, school sports, farm, and local business news, and of course, the comics. But recently I read that the local senior centers had prohibited prayer and political discussions. That is the sort of bad decision that I like to write about. However, the focus of my IMHO blog is on national social and cultural issues, with a bit of self-reliance and conservative ethics thrown in. I’m active in my community but don’t usually write about it. So, I set the paper aside and hoped that the local seniors wouldn’t just accept the new rules.
They didn’t. They grew more active and I got involved. Each day brought new individuals into the discussion. Seniors wrote letters to the editor and attended board meetings. Over the years The Chronicle has swayed between good journalism and a liberal slant. However, their reporting on this issue was good and moved the discussion in the direction of resolution and liberty.
The story evolved into an example of citizen power over bureaucracy and I felt compelled to write about it. So, I did in a blogpost titled Ageless Liberty. If you’re interested in this sort of local cultural fight, I encourage you to read the post and linked Chronicle articles.
