Gender Journey
As I watched the South Park episode “Joining the Panderverse,” hope swelled within me that the recent progressive insanity might be crumbling.” Briefly, the episode shows Disney CEO, Robert Iger, and executive Kathleen Kennedy making woke decisions that drive the company’s share price down. That bit of delightful mockery was soon followed by the latest movie from the Daily Wire, Lady Ballers.
This one-hour 52-minute-long film is written, directed, and stars the Daily Wire CEO, Jeremy Boreing, as Coach Rob. It is co-written by Brian A. Hoffman and Nick Sheehan and stars Daniel Considine as Alex Cruise. There are cameo appearances by a host of right-wing figures including, the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles, Candace Owens, Brett Cooper, and Andrew Klavan. Also, Senator Ted Cruz, and former competitive swimmer Riley Gaines both make appearances as themselves along with Jordan Peterson. You may have noticed that none of these individuals are major players in the entertainment industry. Boreing stated at one point that any actors in this film would be canceled for being in it. Despite that issue, the film does accomplish its goal.
That goal is to mock the absurdity of current woke thinking in sports, schools, and society as a whole. To accomplish this, the film centers on Coach Rob, a man who has not guided a team to victory in ages. In a twist of fate, he reunites with one of his former (male) basketball players and devises a plan to win in women’s sports with men. Eventually, he brings together his last championship team to play in an Olympic-type event with the purpose of gaining fame and fortune. Coach Rob just might feel like a winner again.
That’s the plot but does the comedy work? Yes, but only if you enjoy the South Park-style humor mentioned at the top of this review. While I believe that lately, South Park has pulled some of its satirical and mocking punches, this movie does not. However, this movie is somewhat low-brow, a bit crude, and at times cringe-worthy. If you don’t like political humor you may not like this film.
None of the actors have significant backgrounds in the industry. Many are Daily Wire hosts. I would have liked Brett Cooper to have had more screen time but, my guess is that she didn’t have the time to host her show and act in the upcoming series Pendragon Cycle.
