The Right Side of Hollywood
Hollywood in Toto, a movie and entertainment review website with the slogan, “The Right Take on Entertainment. Movies Plus, a streaming service that values free speech. Both are part of the growing conservative voice in the entertainment industry.
This started as a piece about Hollywood in Toto. Then the company posted an article about “Movies Plus,” a streaming service that I had planned to write about. Since both focused on the same industry and have a limited history, I decided to combine the two.
I’ll start with the smaller of the two companies, Hollywood in Toto. As mentioned, the company slogan is “The Right Take on Entertainment.” Do we need a conservative entertainment reporter? I think so, and the response from HIT is, “The vast majority of entertainment journalists, like Hollywood denizens, lean to the left. It’s undeniable. Plus, those leanings directly influence the stories you read, the angles covered and the topics ignored or downplayed.” Also, the site fact-checks celebrities when they use their social media platforms to spread inaccurate information.
Founded by Christian Toto in 2014, the company website is where visitors will find entertainment news, reviews, and commentary. The site has about a dozen contributors including, Brad Slager, Barry Wurst, Joseph Granda, and author C.S. Johnson. All are familiar with the entertainment industry but, none have achieved celebrity status.
The site covers many movies I’ll never choose to watch, but they also spotlight movies that interest me but, I might never have heard about. While perusing the site, I read a biographical piece on Kevin Sorbo which included the trailer for a movie I’d not heard of, Miracle in East Texas. The movie looked interesting. Also, I read a positive review for God’s Not Dead: We the People, the fourth movie in the franchise. I enjoyed the first and second movies, but not so much for the third. However, after reading the review and watching the trailer on HIT, I will watch this very timely installment.
Beyond that, there were news stories about cancel culture, Clint Eastwood, and six current releases. The site is updated several times a day. I recommend Hollywood in Toto for conservatives.
As mentioned, this piece began when I read about Movies Plus in a Hollywood in Toto article. Founded by entrepreneur Cory Tucek in 2020, Movies Plus is a streaming service that vows to support productions on the right and left that face censorship.
Movies Plus was still preparing to launch when Tucek learned of a new documentary, The Plot Against the President. The film was ready for release but because it’s a “powerful deconstruction of the Russia collusion hoax,” the creators felt it would face censorship. Tucek agreed and allowed the film onto Movies Plus before their official start and before the election. Tucek says he isn’t political but, by taking a stand for free speech he is making a statement.
Movies Plus offers a one-month free trial and then is $5.99 a month, or $29.99 a year.
The conservative perspective may never be dominant in Hollywood but, it is growing there and elsewhere. In April, we reported on Angel Studios, based in Provo, Utah. Hollywood in Toto is headquartered in Denver, and Movies Plus, a place to find movies and documentaries that woke culture has canceled or ignored, is out of Pittsburgh.
