Amplifying Light
Less than three years ago, I wrote an article about a tiny company that had allowed users to set custom filters to block explicit content on streamed movies. As you might think, the big studios didn’t like someone filtering swear words and nudity from their movies. In 2016, Disney, 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm, and Warner Bros. filed a federal lawsuit against the upstart company and in 2017 VidAngel was forced to file for bankruptcy protection. But that isn’t even close to the end of the story.
Rings of Woke
Fans were upset before they’d seen the first episode of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. There are many reasons fans are mad. Tolkien Scholars suddenly discussing transgender narratives in Lord of the Rings made fans suspicious. Some allege Tolkien scholars were bribed by Amazon. Also, an actress, Sophia Nomvete, boasted that she was the first female dwarf. She’s wrong. Several women play dwarfs in previous Tolkien movies. The production team gas-lighted fan claims that if they didn’t like the direction the Rings of Power was headed they were racist.
A Road to Flops
Christian Toto is a journalist, conservative movie critic, and editor of the website Hollywood in Toto. So, his view on how wokism has taken hold on the movie industry is insightful and important for those both inside and outside the industry. His book, Virtue Bombs: How Hollywood Got Woke and Lost its Soul, uses 231 pages to divide the topic into its many parts. Covering Hollywood culture, the woke movies they make, censoring comedians and actors, and how to fight back among, other related topics.
If Hollywood had its Way
People might expect movies produced by conservatives to have a bland story, stiff acting with a heavy dose of pandering. Shut In has none of those issues. It’s not a perfect movie, it has a slow start but it really picks up, and along the way, it has a lot of surprises.
The Voice of Conservative Millennials
CNN, MSNBC, and the New York Times often lean so far left that they get basic facts wrong. Examples abound, such as the Kyle Rittenhouse trial or about Trump-Russia collusion. However, a new, grassroots media, is emerging. Founded in 2015 in Los Angeles, The Daily Wire is a fast-growing Internet media company, that works from a conservative perspective to get the facts right. A variety of shows are daily released online.
The Right Side of Hollywood
Hollywood in Toto, a movie and entertainment review website with the slogan, “The Right Take on Entertainment. Movies Plus, a streaming service that values free speech. Both are part of the growing conservative voice in the entertainment industry.
Carrying on the Legacy
I first became aware of Rush Limbaugh while stationed in Japan, serving with the Navy. On October 6, 1991, Rush appeared on 60 Minutes. That evening I watched the interview on the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS). Rush died earlier this year, and today his show comes to an official end. Who will carry his work forward to a new generation?
Pearls in the Pigsty
Every conservative knows how badly our values are maligned and misrepresent by Hollywood. However, there are some pearls in amongst the slop. Since this is a website devoted to conservative alternatives I thought it would be useful to mention some of the better entertainment.
