The Sinking Ship
The author of Ship of Fools, Tucker Carlson, is the host of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” on the Fox News Channel. For me, his second book was at times hard to read. Carlson’s writing is fine, often witty and humorous, but the magnitude of the selfish, feckless, and inept leadership that the author brings to light is stunning.
The Dying American Dream
Hillbilly Elegy is a memoir by J.D. Vance about his life from poverty to middle class and a bit beyond. He chose the title well. Along the winding road of his life, Vance lost family, friends, and for a time, his own direction. Thanks to a strong-minded grandmother he found his way, but other things were lost forever.
The New Diversity in the Military
Lieutenant colonel Matthew Lohmeier, commander of 11th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado, was relieved of command in May after Lieutenant General Stephen Whiting, the head of Space Operations Command over a loss of confidence in his ability to lead. This reason for relieving an officer is standard verbiage for such actions. In my opinion, the real reason is that Lohmeier dared to criticize the diversity and inclusion initiatives that the Space Force, and the rest of the military, are currently pushing on service members.
Racism in Everything
Stamped (For Kids) is an adaptation of Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You. This book makes Critical Race Theory (CRT) accessible for children. That alone would be troublesome, but this book generalizes, glosses over inconvenient facts, and in other places is factually incorrect.
The Importance of the Past
In the introduction to The Unbroken Thread, the author states, “A radically assimilated immigrant isn’t supposed to complain about his freedom. Yet as I grow into my faith and my role as a father, I tremble over the prospect of my son’s growing up in an order that doesn’t erect any barriers against individual appetites and if anything, goes out of its way to demolish existing barriers.”
